  • THE BEGINNING

    Born in Trieste, Renato Balestra comes from a family of architects and engineers and after a childhood steeped in the Mid-European cultural environment of the area, he too began studying for a degree in civil engineering. However, even from the earliest days of his youth, he dedicated his much of his time to artistic activities, including both painting and music, and devoted several hours a day to studying the piano.
    It was not until the last year of his engineering studies, however, that he became involved in fashion, creating a design in response to a bet made among friends. Without his knowledge, the result was sent to Milan and, to his great surprise, he was invited to participate in the creation of an haute couture collection.

  • ROME

    It is fair to say that fashion chose Renato Balestra, rather than Renato Balestra choosing fashion.
    The move from Milan to Rome was rapid. He started to collaborate with the most important fashion houses in Rome, like the Sorelle Fontana and Shuberth and worked also for the movies.
    Renato Balestra opened his first roman Atelien in Via Gregoriana.
    However, few years later, Via Sistina, will became the symbol of the Maison where the designer will began his rise to international fame and where he will receive the most elegant women in the world.
    Throughout his career, Renato Balestra has been invited to present his Collections all over the world, with enormous international success. He has also been awarded with prestigious prizes in recognition of his talent.

  • ABROAD

    His private clients include prestigious names from all over the world. Renato Balestra has designed clothes for the Empress Farah Diba, the Queen of Thailand, Sirikit and her daughter the Princess Choulabhorn. For Princess Noor Hamzah of Jordan Renato Balestra made her two wedding dresses.
    Such was their friendship with the First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos, that she asked Balestra to do her youngest daughter Irene’s gown when she married Greggy Araneta in 1982.
    As well as Saudi Arabian Princesses, leading celebrities of the international jet-set, not forgetting, of course, famous actresses.
    From East to West, the creations of Renato Balestra enchant and know how to adapt to the cultures and tastes of the places in which they are worn, always maintaining the high quality of Italian tailoring.

  • WORKS

    Renato Balestra has designed the costumes for various theatre operas.
    In 1988 he created the costumes for Rossini’s Cinderella for the Belgrade’s Opera Theatre, and in 1999 the ones for Strauss’s “Cavaliere della Rosa” in occasion of the liric opening season of Teatro Verdi in Trieste.
    The world tour of the musical "Cinderella", produced by Broadway Asia Entertainment, started in 2009 and Renato Balestra designed all the costumes. The musical will touch the major cities in Asia until arriving in America in 2011.
    Both for “Il Cavaliere della Rosa” and for the Musical "Cindarella", the success has been so great that the representations were prolonged for two years in a row.

  • UNIFORMS

    In May 1985 Renato Balestra designed the uniform of the Philippine Airlines.
    In January 1986, the designer presented during his fashion Show at the Sistina Theatre in Rome the new Alitalia uniforms, that will be worn until 1991.
    Mr. Balestra designed and realized also, in May 1988, the uniforms for plant operators Agip Petroleum.
