The second edition of Be Blue Be Balestra, staged in collaboration with Altaroma, has now been taken to a new level. Master couturier, Renato Balestra offered the time-honored experience of his fashion house not only to the young graduates of the Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome but also to the new generation of students enrolled in the course of Fashion Communication who, in agreement with Maison Balestra and Altaroma contributed to its promotion.

“A generous example of a dialogue between a master couturier and young peolpe seeking to gain a foothold in the world of fashion and build their careers, while drawing upon a legacy of unique, invaluable experience.”

Silvia Venturini Fendi, President Altaroma

Tradition on one hand and experimentation on the other. Renato Balestra has made available his own experience to the young future designers. In fact, he has accepted to take the role as their guide and mentor, not only by offering them his support and promoting their work, but also by giving concrete shape to their ideas. The development of the creative process, from design to creation of the end products, wheter outfits or accessories, has been documented by a video, that takes viewers, step-by-step, through the process involved in the “making of”.

“Blue by election, blue by instinct and blue as an emotion, creating a sense of absolute harmony.”

Renato Balestra

Tradition and innovation are the concepts behind the work of the nine talents who have played, each according to its own style, the aesthetic codes of the Maison Balestra: Martina Belpassi, Carolina Cicerchia, Flavia Collatina, Ambra D’oro, Valentina Di Noia, Giulia Geria, Giulia Goretti de’ Flamini, Chiara Palombini and Vittoria Veltroni, share past experiences in fashion contests participating at the AltaRomAltaModa 2014 edition, at which they presented their first collection.

The jury that chose the winner was composed by: Silvia Venturini Fendi (President of AltaRoma), Lyne Cohen-Solal (Representative of the Comune and City of Paris), Sara Maino (Senior Editor of Vogue Italia and Vogue Talents), Clara Tosi Pamphili (Curator of A.I. Artisanal Intelligence ), Barbara Modesti (TG1 journalist), Diane Pernet (ASVOFF Founder), Glenn Belverio (ASVOFF blogger) and Massimo Degli Effetti (Buyer and owner Boutique Degli Effetti).

The event was attended by the students of VI and VII edition of the Course Fashion Communication of the Academy –Antonia Primerano, Jennifer Toppi, Marcela Souza, Serena Pompei, Valentina Balzer, Vanessa Castaneda, Martina Briotti, Gaia Bruscoli, Serena Aiello, Eliana Spadaro, Martina Briotti, Monica Casola, Jacopo Matricciano, Federica Morgera, Vania Patriarca, Samira Vicinanza, Carmen Fiorentino, Giulio Piano del Balzo, Benedetta Danieli, Fabiana Parpagnoli – that handled the Press Office, the event organization and Public Relations of the designers.

The winner was Giulia Geria. Thanks to her creation she got the chance to attend a 30-hour course of specialized training at the historic Atelier Lésage in Paris. Thanks to the supervision of the Artistic Director Hubert Barrère, the student had the opportunity to learn this ancient craft. A cultural value that further strengthen and safeguard the art of haute couture and sanction the twinship, “Tandem Rome-Paris” of the only two cities in the world that boast an immense historical legacy in haute couture.
